In September 2024, Global Health and Tropical Medicine (GHTM) welcomed Professor Melissa Brown from the College of Science and Engineering at Flinders University, Adelaide, South Australia. A long-standing collaborator of Professor Miguel Viveiros, Professor Brown’s visit aimed to present her research initiatives and explore new scientific collaborations with GHTM members, particularly with the Research Group on THOP – TB, HIV and opportunistic diseases and pathogens.
During this initial working session, discussions also encompassed preparations for the 2025 Gordon Research Conference on Multi-Drug Efflux Systems, scheduled to take place in Lucca, Italy. Participants included Professor Isabel Couto, Dr. Sofia Santos Costa, Professor Liliana Rodrigues, and PhD students in Biomedical Sciences: Catarina Morais, Carolina Ferreira, Mariana Andrade, and Marta Leal.
The visit also featured a guided tour of the GHTM | IHMT-NOVA facilities, allowing Professor Brown to acquaint herself with the laboratories and infrastructures supporting the institute’s research endeavors.
