The Working Group on “Training and Skills for FAIR Data Management”, which includes Salima Rehemtula – Coordinator of Library and Museum Management Office of IHMT NOVA – , is part of the Research Data Management Forum and has been actively engaging the scientific community to support capacity-building strategies and the development of skills in research data management.
One of the group’s key initiatives is the Data Talks series, where researchers are invited to share best practices and real-world experiences in managing and sharing research data.
The next session will take place on 27 April, from 14:30 to 15:00 (Lisbon time), and will feature Dora Henriques, Assistant Researcher at the Centro de Investigação de Montanha (CIMO) and the Associate Laboratory SusTEC, at the Instituto Politécnico de Bragança (IPB). Her talk, titled “FAIR Data in Practice: Challenges and Solutions in Genomic Data Sharing”, will explore the full lifecycle of genomic data in research.
The presentation will cover key stages ranging from sample collection and DNA extraction to sequencing, data processing, and long-term preservation. Drawing on practical experience from large-scale bee research projects—such as MEDIBEES, Better-B, and Bee3Pomics—the session will highlight collaborative workflows in computational clusters and address the challenges of implementing FAIR principles and Open Science practices.
Participants will also gain insights into effective strategies for data sharing, including the use of disciplinary repositories such as the NCBI Sequence Read Archive (SRA), standard data formats (e.g., Fastq and Bam), and the sharing of code and supplementary materials through platforms like GitHub and Zenodo.
The session will be held online and is free of charge, upon registration: [Registration link]
This initiative reinforces GHTM’s commitment to advancing good practices in research data management and supporting the adoption of FAIR principles across the scientific community.
