GHTM Sessions | Microbial digital PCR application

April 27, 2026

📅 Date: 29 April 2026
🕒 Time: 11:00-13:00
📍 Location: ZOOM & SALA FRAGA DE AZEVEDO

Microbial identification and profiling play a critical role across diverse fields, from human health to food safety and environmental monitoring. While identification confirms the presence or absence of specific microorganisms, profiling reveals their relative expression across different conditions, requiring a reference sample and proper normalization.

In this GHTM Session, the dPCR Microbial DNA Detection Assays will be presented, showcasing their ability to deliver precise and reliable insights by targeting bacterial, fungal, parasitic, viral, antibiotic resistance, and virulence factor genes. Bacterial assays focus on the 16S rRNA gene, while fungal assays target ribosomal RNA genes.

With a portfolio of over 700 assays—200 of which are wet-lab validated—these solutions provide extensive coverage. For targets not included in the predesigned portfolio, an intuitive custom assay design tool enables tailored solutions for bacterial, fungal, and viral applications.

The session will conclude with a Questions & Answers segment, encouraging interaction and discussion among participants.

About Jamal Qualai

Jamal Qualai is a biotechnology professional with a strong academic and scientific background. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Girona, followed by a Master’s degree in Translational Medicine from Hospital Clínic, University of Barcelona. He later completed his PhD at Hospital Vall d’Hebron, University of Barcelona, specializing in Biomedicine, with a focus on Immunology, Oncology, and Infectious Diseases. With over a decade of professional experience, Jamal has built solid expertise in molecular diagnostics, particularly in the fields of oncology and infectious diseases. His work bridges research and applied science, contributing to the development and implementation of advanced diagnostic solutions. Combining academic rigor with industry experience, he brings valuable insight into the evolving landscape of precision medicine and diagnostic innovation.
