Vitor Mendes

PhD student

GHTM Group: Population health, policies and services

ProfileResearchTop Research Outputs

Vitor Mendes holds a degree in Cardiopneumology and a Master’s in Cardiopneumology- specialization in Applied Arrhytmology, from the Polytechic Institute of Coimbra. He is a certified Specialist in Cardiovascular Perfusion by the European Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion. He currently works as a Senior Clinical Perfusionist and Researcher at Geneva University Hospitals and is a PhD student in International Health at the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, NOVA University Lisbon.

Vitor Mendes’s research lies at the intersection of cardiovascular perfusion and global health, with a primary focus on vulnerable pediatric populations undergoing surgical correction of congenital heart diseases. His work addresses key challenges in access to surgical care for children from low-income countries and investigates predictive factors of postoperative complications. He is particularly interested in studying variables that guide the selection of the safest surgical techniques, aiming to reduce risk and improve outcomes in these populations. Another area of interest is the optimization of resources in humanitarian surgical settings, seeking strategies to maximize efficiency and equity in environments with limited capacity.
