Dr. Michael Jordan is a physician and professor at Tufts University, holding positions as an attending physician in Infectious Diseases and Geographic Medicine at Tufts Medical Center, and a Professor of Medicine and Public Health and Community Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine. Board-certified in Infectious Diseases, his expertise encompasses HIV drug resistance (HIVDR), public health surveillance epidemiology, and the evaluation and monitoring of antiretroviral therapy (ART) programs.
Dr. Jordan’s international involvement is notable; he supports the World Health Organization (WHO) in developing and implementing global HIVDR surveillance protocols and serves as a consultant scientist for both the WHO and the Pan American Health Organization. He has collaborated with Ministries of Health in over 60 countries to establish sustainable HIV drug resistance monitoring strategies. He holds degrees from Tufts University and Harvard School of Public Health and is a Fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America.
Dr Jordan’s research interests include HIV, viral hepatitis, sexually transmitted infections, and emerging infectious diseases and response.
Our research significantly impacts global health, focusing on HIV/AIDS, antimicrobial resistance, COVID-19, and emerging infections. Our work on drug resistance for HIV, viral hepatitis, and sexually transmitted infections includes characterizing mutations and developing population-level surveillance strategies vital to diagnosis treatment and the choice and scale-up of optimal care and treatment. Dr. Jordan and his team work closely with international organizations, ministries of health, and community members to develop national and global strategies to prevent, monitor, and respond to the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance.
