Helga Mamede GonçaIves is an Internal Medicine Doctor and Health Research. She is currently  Research Fellow at the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) Research and Development Center – Global Health and Tropical Medicine (GHTM) and Ph.D. student of International Health at the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (IHMT), Nova University Lisbon (UNL), Portugal.

She obtained a master’s degree in Public Administration, specialization in Health Administration, University of Lisbon, 2018-2022 and a post-graduate course in Criminal Legislation and Medicine, in Lisbon Law School.

She was Team member of the National Development Sanitary Plan of Angola, Health Ministry, Angola in 2014 and has more than ten years of clinical care activity, having worked in Angola, Brazil and Portugal.

Selected to participate in “Top Female Founders”2023, in Vienna, Austria, a program funded by the European Union, whose objective is to provide the foundation for sustainable innovation and entrepreneurship in health.

Main research area: clinical and epidemiological research in the Tropics.

Helga Vicente is a member of the Individual Health Care (IHC) Research Group, which promotes translational and implementation research on tropical diseases, travel medicine, and migrant health. The group aims to improve (1) the diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and control of malaria and other febrile diseases in the tropics, and (2) child and reproductive health care for vulnerable populations, including migrants and residents in low- and middle-income countries.

Currently, her research focuses on the causes and outcomes of acute febrile illnesses in southern Angola.
