GHTM Group: TB, HIV and opportunistic diseases and pathogens

ProfileResearchTop Research Outputs

Gonçalo Queirós is a PhD student at the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, NOVA University Lisbon. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the Faculty of Sciences, University of Porto since 2022 and a Master’s degree in Medical Microbiology from NOVA University Lisbon since 2025, co-organized by the NOVA Medical School, the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, the António Xavier Institute of Chemical and Biological Technology, and the Faculty of Science and Technology. I am pursuing the Biomedical Sciences PhD program, with a specialization in Microbiology, since 2025.

Gonçalo’s scientific interests revolve around medical virology, particularly viral evolution and antiviral drug resistance. His previous and current research focuses on the molecular epidemiology of HIV-1 in highly diverse settings, exploring phylogenetic relationships, characterizing recombination events, and describing the circulation of drug-resistance mutations.
