A challenge in public health research has been to promote the use of scientific knowledge produced in action strategies, more effective, suitable, that brings effective health gains. The translation of knowledge has assumed
critical importance for health research. In this article we intend to reflect on how we tried to promote the translation of knowledge in a participatory research project in the area of HIV / AIDS.
The PREVIH project aimed to contribute to the promotion of health, reducing the transmission of HIV infection and improve the access of men who have sex with men and sex workers in Portugal, as well as to promote the training and advocacy of various stakeholders. Through the participatory approach, the project an intervention that, as a process of social innovation, contributed to the creation of new synergies and for the change of the system, by
existing roles, creating new roles and redistributing and transforming across the network. This experience has triggered a dynamic and interactive production of knowledge and its translation into effective initiatives to improve the health of populations.
