Scientist returned to school

20 Junho, 2022

Recently, the IHMT researcher Ana Tavares accepted the challenge of “Cientist@ Regressa à Escola” program and returned to her old school to developed a science workshop with children.

Implemented by Native Scientist, “Cientista Regressa à Escola” is a communication and science educational program, which promotes the return of scientists from all scientific fields to their old elementary school to conduct science workshops.

With the visit of the GHTM member of Biotropical Resources, the 4th grade students from Escola Básica do Conde Ferreira, Montemor-o-Novo, learned what are bacteria and discovered how wonderful the microorganisms world is.

The scientist had also met with personalities of the local municipality, in order to establish bridges and strengthen relations with her homeland.

“My participation in Cientist@ Regressa à Escola was a fantastic experience and great opportunity to engage kids in science and to foster scientific literacy about the fascinating microscopic world of the bacteria. We love when we get to heard things like “One day I would like to be a scientist as you”, it is inspiring”, shared the scientist.

For Ana Tavares it was also “a wonderful opportunity to revisit a place where I grew up and learned so much, to remember my loving primary teacher and some of my school adventures. It is certainly a project from Native Scientist worth encouraging and supporting!”

If you interested in joining “Cientista Regressa à Escola”, find more about this program and other activities on Native Scientist website.
