GHTM researchers will celebrate the International Microorganism Day at Pavilhão do Conhecimento – Centro Ciência Viva

September 16, 2022

On September 17, come to the Pavilhão do Conhecimento – Centro Ciência Viva to celebrate the International Microorganism Day. The GHTM-IHMT-NOVA will be present with activities designed for all ages.

The International Microorganism Day (IMD) is celebrated to raise society’s awareness for the importance of these organisms in the environment and in our health. The commemorations of IMD were launched in Portugal, and combine science dissemination activities, open laboratories, DIY experimental exhibits, microbial product tasting stands, and workshops for high-school and university undergraduate students, and high-school teachers, organized with the participation of national and international scientists working in the field of Microbiology.

One of the major public health problems we are facing is the resistance of bacteria to current antibiotics. Under the motto “Resistência aos antibióticos: um macro desafio” (“Antibiotic resistance: a macro challenge”), the GHTM researchers from Medical Parasitology Unit and Medical Bacteriology Unit of IHMT will share their knowledge about Malaria, Science&Bacteria and resistant Tuberculosis in a very interactive way.

The participants will have the opportunity to see Malaria parasites and Tuberculosis bacteria under the microscope, to visualize tridimensional models of proteins and also to know more about microorganisms and antibiotics by playing a fun card game.

Come talk to the researchers of GHTM-IHMT and learn more about these microorganisms, on 17th September between 11:00 am and 6:30 pm in “Investigação em macro – Banca de atividades”/ ”Macro Research – Workbench activities” area.

To know more about the events that will occur in Portugal, please visited the IMD website.

Some activities require register, please consult the Pavilhão do Conhecimento International Microorganism Day activity programme.

Don’t miss it!
