Best Microbiology Scientist 2023

GHTM researchers ranked among the Best Scientists for 2023. Recently, the Research.com released the second edition of the annual report on the best scientists worldwide in specific disciplines of science, which aims to “increase awareness and recognition within the academic world of the significant research accomplishments of top researchers and scientists”.

In the 2023 edition of the Ranking of Top Scientists in the field of Microbiology, 15 Portuguese researchers were ranked, among which three are members of GHTM-IHMT-NOVA:

  • Leonard Amaral, late and memorable emeritus IHMT NOVA professor and former GHTM member, whose lifetime legacy to microbiology ranked 1592 in the world and 2 in Portugal;
  • Miguel Viveiros, professor and Coordinator of GHTM, was ranked 1684 in the world and 3 in Portugal. He has also been recognized with the Microbiology Leader Award for 2023;
  • Isabel Couto, professor and THOP-GHTM Research Group Leader, was ranked 4304 in the world and 14 in Portugal.

In the Ranking of Top Scientists in the field of Animal Science and Veterinary, 11 Portuguese researchers were ranked, among which one member of GHTM-IHMT-NOVA

  • Carla Maia, researcher and VBD-GHTM Research Group member, was ranked 1220 in the world and 6 in Portugal.

The annual release of the ranking of the best scientists in the disciplines of Microbiology and Animal Science and Veterinary relies on data derived from multiple data sources, and the position in the ranking is based on a scholar’s D-index (Discipline H-index) calculated by considering only the publications and their citation values deemed to belong to the examined discipline during researcher’s lifetime career. The inclusion criteria for scholars are based on their discipline h-index, proportion of their contributions made within the given discipline, as well as on their awards and achievements.
