On Friday 26 September, GHTM | IHMT-NOVA once again participated in European Researchers’ Night, providing a unique experience that brought science and society closer together.
Hundreds of people of all ages attended the 2025 edition, which took place between the Oeiras Marina and the Pavilion of Knowledge – Centro Ciência Viva in Lisbon. There was a great atmosphere of enthusiasm and curiosity. Families, students and adults alike actively participated in the activities, showing a keen interest in learning more about the work of IHMT NOVA researchers.
At the Oeiras Marina, the Medical Microbiology Teaching and Research Unit (UEI) addressed the increasingly urgent issue of antibiotic resistance. Sofia Santos Costa, THOP-GHTM Researcher, and THOP-GHTM PhD students Mariana Andrade and Marta Leal engaged the audience with clear explanations and interactive demonstrations, facilitating genuine scientific exchange.
At the Pavilion of Knowledge in Lisbon, the UEI of Medical Parasitology demonstrated the impact of freshwater snails on human health in a session led by VBD-GHTM Researcher Pedro Ferreira that sparked the curiosity of children and adults. The MosquitoWeb team, comprising Carla Sousa, Teresa Novo and Filipe Lopes, Researchers from VBD-GHTM Research Group also emphasised the importance of mosquito surveillance in relation to public health. This activity was characterised by significant interaction with the public.
With its diverse and accessible programme, NEI 2025 once again proved to be a celebration of science, reinforcing the fundamental role of research in responding to global challenges and inspiring the next generation of scientists.
