First GHTM Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Day
Drug resistance is now a global public health problem. The last decades have witnessed an alarming increase of infections caused by bacteria, viruses, parasites and fungi resistant to these compounds, not only in the hospital but also in the community. This is a complex and multifactorial problem requiring concerted action to contain the emergence and spread of resistant pathogens.
Several institutions have taken initiatives to draw attention to this problem by promoting discussion on the issue. As in previous years, the World Health Organization and the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) respectively promote the World Antibiotic Awareness Week, from 13 to 19 November and the European Antibiotic Awareness Day, on 18 November .
The GHTM joins these initiatives and promotes a meeting for researchers and collaborators from different areas to present their work in this area, with the aim of creating a platform for discussion of future initiatives that contribute to the fight against drug resistance .
