BIOTROP – BIOTROPICAL RESOURCES BIOBANK

17 Janeiro, 2022

BIOTROP

Biotropical Resources (BIOTROP) is a NOVA University’s biobank located at the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, as a division of the Global Health and Tropical Medicine R&D Centre (GHTM | IHMT | NOVA).
BIOTROP is a strategic infrastructure, whose main mission is to provide high‐quality biological resources and associated data to support research in health sciences, particularly in infectious diseases and tropical medicine.
This facility is prepared to receive, preserve, and distribute samples according to good laboratory practices and standard operating procedures in strict compliance with ethical and legal frameworks. Standard services as sample management, nucleic acids’ extraction, quantitative or qualitative detection of pathogens and bioinformatics’ analysis can be provided (or other services on request).
BIOTROP is approved by the Data Protection Office from NOVA and integrates the Portuguese Roadmap of Research Infrastructures as a member of two national networks PT-mBRCN/MIRRI-PT and BIOBANCO.PT.

GHTM Sessions 2022 CCID08 » Double session » “Diagnosis of Pneumocystis jirovecii colonization in preterm newborns and molecular characterization of infection” and “Should the diagnosis of Encephalitozoon cuniculi be undertaken during inflammation?”

“Diagnosis of Pneumocystis jirovecii colonization in preterm newborns and molecular characterization of infection”;
by Magdalena Szydłowicz, Biotechnologist, currently assistant professor at Wroclaw Medical University (Poland). Scientific interests include identification and molecular characterization of opportunistic pathogens’ infections in various risk groups, mainly Pneumocystis jirovecii.

And

“Should the diagnosis of Encephalitozoon cuniculi be undertaken during inflammation?”;
by Marta Kicia, Associate professor in the Department of Biology and Medical Parasitology, Wroclaw Medical University, biotechnologist. Current research interests focus on detection and molecular characterization of opportunistic pathogens, including microsporidia, Pneumocystis jirovecii and Cryptosporidium spp. in humans and animals.
