BIOTROP, the biobank of GHTM-IHMT-NOVA, represented at the inauguration of the European headquarters of MIRRI-ERIC

December 19, 2022

The Coordinator of the Biotropical Resources biobank (BIOTROP), Ana Paula Arez, and the Coordinator of GHTM-IHMT, Miguel Viveiros, were present at Campus of Gualtar, University of Minho for the MIRRI_ERIC (https://www.mirri.org/) Headquarters official inauguration at UMinho.

Held on December 14th, the ceremony was attended by the Minister of Science and Technology and the President of FCT, being an important achievement of the Portuguese node (MIRRI-PT) coordinated by Nelson Lima, Executive Director at Micoteca da Universidade do Minho (Fungal collection) (MUM), and of which BIOTROP is a member.

As mentioned by Ana Paula Arez, “the Microbial Resource Research Infrastructure is the pan-European Research Infrastructure Consortium (MIRRI-ERIC) for the preservation, systematic investigation, provision and valorisation of microbial resources and biodiversity. It brings together more than 50 microbial domain Biological Resource Centres (mBRCs), culture collections and research institutes from ten European countries”.

The ceremony was followed by a meeting of the national network Pt-mBRCN/MIRRI-PT (Portuguese microBiological Resources Center Network, https://www.mbrcn.pt/), which integrates the Portuguese Roadmap of Research Infrastructures of Strategic Relevance (RNIE).

Pt-mBRCN aims for a better-managed national microbial resources which will lead to further discoveries in all areas of the life sciences including healthcare and innovative solutions and products for bioindustries.
