November 13, 2024

On October 30th, Dr. Ana Paula Arez, the Coordinator of the Biobank at GHTM | IHMT-NOVA – Biotropical Resources (BIOTROP), actively participated in an insightful round table discussion titled “What is the Role of Biological Culture Collections in Society and the Future?” This event highlighted the crucial role of biological resource culture collections.

The session, expertly coordinated by the University of Coimbra Bacteria Culture Collection (UCCCB), gathered prominent figures from the field. Among the participants were Dr. Alexandra Rodrigues, Vice President of the Center for Coordination and Regional Development Commission (CCDR Centro), Dr. Ana Portugal Melo, Executive Director of MIRRI – Microbial Resource Research Infrastructure, and Dr. Sandra Carvalho, Deputy Director of FCTUC.

This gathering provided a platform for leading experts to share their insights and visions, emphasizing the significant impact and future potential of biological culture collections in advancing scientific research and societal development.
