In May 2020, the Cascais City Council established a partnership with GHTM to conduct a community-level seroprevalence survey, which included blood serology testing for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies together with socio-demographic and clinical questions. The study’s 1st phase was between May and September 2020 and had 12,032 respondents – 5.62% of Cascais population. The reactive tests’ %s were, respectively: 1.3 overall, 1.16 females and 1.56 males; having the 20-39 age group the highest prevalence (2%).

Drones can be used to transport laboratory samples in remote areas, but limited evidence exists on whether that transport affects the samples’ results. Given its potential, the Ministry of Health and the National Institute of Health of Mozambique partnered with VillageReach NGO to generate such data and 300 respiratory samples were transported by two drones, departing from, and returning to the «INS TB Reference Laboratory» in Marracuene district. The samples’ analysis concluded that their quality had not changed by flight, being comparable to land transport.

There is limited data on the extent of the African SARS-CoV-2 epidemic. According to official records, 0.2% of the population has tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. The results indicate that the infection rate in Guinea-Bissau is considerably higher than what public testing data suggests, especially among females.
