VAX-Action Hosts International Training to Tackle Vaccine Hesitancy Across Europe at IHMT-NOVA

April 7, 2025

Between March 24 and 28, GHTM | IHMT-NOVA hosted the “Tailored Interventions to Reduce Vaccine Hesitancy in European Target Regions: Evaluators’ Training Week,” as part of Work Package 3 (WP3) of the VAX-Action project. The event brought together participants from five European countries, where interventions are being implemented to empower healthcare professionals and individuals aged 65 and older in addressing vaccine hesitancy.

The training was designed and delivered by the GHTM | IHMT NOVA team, led by Professor Tiago Correia, with contributions from Professor Isabel Craveiro and Dr. Rita Morais as part of the evaluation team. Professor Craveiro guided the evaluation team and played a key role in engaging with local evaluators, who benefited from her extensive expertise in health evaluation.

The programme featured national and international experts, including Dr. Daniela Alba Nickel (Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Brazil), who discussed challenges in health interventions, and Dr. Micheline Meiners (Universidade de Brasília, Brazil), who led a session on project implementation and execution. Also noteworthy was the participation of Dr. Verónica Gómez, who presented the experience of the Instituto Nacional de Saúde Doutor Ricardo Jorge (INSA) in evaluating the first European School of Health Information, and Dr. Ana Cristina Garcia (INSA), who shared insights from her experience evaluating health interventions.

During the opening session, Professor Tiago Correia emphasized the importance of the VAX-ACTION project and the significance of the work developed. Interventions targeting frontline health workers and vulnerable populations were presented by Dr. Gaelle Lièvre (Institut Pasteur, France) and Dr. Georgeta Popovici (National Institute of Health Services Management, Romania), both partners in the project.

This training laid the groundwork for evaluating interventions across the target regios. The evaluation process now moves forward in each country with the continued support and guidance of the evaluation team at GHTM | IHMT NOVA.
