The Universidade NOVA de Lisboa has launched its new Research Data Management and Sharing Policy, reinforcing its commitment to Open Science and to the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable data).
This policy results from NOVA’s participation in the NOVA.ID-RDM-CC – Research Data Management Competence Centre project, an interdisciplinary initiative involving several NOVA organisational units and aimed at strengthening research data management practices at both institutional and national levels.
NOVA.ID-RDM-CC was established within the framework of the National Open Science and Open Research Data Programme, promoted by the FCCN unit of the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT), under the Recovery and Resilience Programme. The centre’s mission is to enhance institutional capacity in research data management (RDM) and to support the adoption of good practices across the scientific community.
Among its key activities are the standardisation of data management practices, the development of institutional policies for data management and sharing, and the provision of training and mentoring programmes for researchers. The centre also focuses on strengthening technical and ethical competencies in data governance and interoperability, enabling researchers to meet increasing international requirements for transparency, accessibility and responsible data use.
One of the project’s main deliverables—the implementation of an institutional Research Data Management and Sharing Policy—has recently been approved and will soon be formally adopted by NOVA. This policy establishes clear guidelines for the management, sharing, accessibility, reuse and integrity of research data produced at the university.
With this milestone, NOVA positions itself among the leading Portuguese institutions in research data management, contributing to the consolidation of Open Science practices and to the development of a more efficient, transparent and accessible scientific ecosystem. The adoption of this policy further reinforces NOVA’s commitment to the quality, integrity and visibility of scientific research outputs, in line with international best practices.
