MICROBiotec’25: Advancing Innovations and Collaboration in Microbiology and Biotechnology

December 5, 2025

MICROBiotec’25, a premier international event in microbiology and biotechnology, is being hosted at the University of the Azores from December 4 to 6, 2025. The congress is organized biannually since 2005 through a collaboration between the Portuguese Society of Microbiology and the Portuguese Society of Biotechnology.

The biannual congress aims to create an enthusiastic platform for discussion and collaboration between national and international researchers and stakeholders across diverse areas of microbiology and biotechnology. It also welcomes young researchers taking their first steps in the scientific community. MICROBiotec’25 promotes knowledge exchange and dialogue among researchers, as well as between academia and industry, providing a unique opportunity to share and debate ideas during three days focused on innovations and challenges in microbiology and biotechnology research.

In the 2025 edition, 21 GHTM members, including researchers, MSc and PhD students from the VBD and THOP Research Groups of GHTM | IHMT NOVA, are actively participating in the congress, sharing their expertise across a wide range of topics.

The congress topics include:

  • Environmental Microbiology & Biotechnology

  • Food Microbiology & Biotechnology

  • Health Biotechnology

  • Health Microbiology

  • Molecular Microbiology and Microbial Physiology

  • Bioprocess Engineering

  • New and Emerging Technologies

  • From Science to Society and Business

  • Biological Resources and Networks

Their participation underscores GHTM’s ongoing commitment to advancing scientific knowledge, fostering international collaborations, and translating research into practical applications. The congress provides an invaluable platform for GHTM researchers to share findings, exchange ideas with global peers, and explore innovative approaches in microbiology and biotechnology.
