“Igualdade na Ciência para a Ciência”: Commemorative Session Marks the International Day of Women and Girls in Science

February 10, 2026

GHTM | IHMT NOVA invites the scientific community to take part in the commemorative session “Igualdade na Ciência para a Ciência”, to be held on 11 February at 15:00, in celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. The session will take place both in person and online, in the Sala Fraga de Azevedo, allowing broad participation.

Organised by the MulhereSTrop – Network of Women Scientists in Tropical Health, the event will feature Marina Birrento, sociologist, Instituto de Ciências Sociais (ICS), Universidade de Lisboa, Alumni, who will contribute to the discussion on gender equality and the social dimensions of scientific careers.

There will also be a roundtable discussion, which will be moderated by Isabel Maurício (VBD-GHTM and leader of the MulhereSTrop Network). Ana Domingos (VBD-GHTM) and Laurinda Sumalique, a Master’s student at IHMT NOVA, will share their perspectives on different career stages.

The session will explore the role of women in science and the challenges they face, encouraging participants to reflect on their career paths, challenges and achievements while promoting collaboration and raising the profile of women scientists in Lusophone countries.

Open to researchers, students, and anyone interested in promoting gender equity in science, this commemorative session invites the community to engage in a constructive conversation on building a more inclusive and diverse scientific ecosystem.
