GHTM | IHMT NOVA welcomes young Mozambican women leaders from Girl Move Academy

November 6, 2025

The Instituto de Higiene e Medicina Tropical, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (IHMT NOVA) recently hosted five participants from the CHANGE programme of the Girlmove Academy — a pioneering initiative that empowers young Mozambican women to become future leaders in social transformation and innovation. The programme combines local community engagement in Mozambique with an international immersion experience in Portugal, equipping participants with practical tools to generate positive impact in their contexts.

The visit included a meeting with GHTM researchers Ricardo Parreira, from VBD-GHTM Research Group, Ana Abecasis, from THOP-GHTM Research Group, and Marta Pingarilho, Isabel Craveiro and Sofia Seabra from PPS-Research Group. The researchers introduced the core research lines in Public Health and presented opportunities for advanced training, including Master’s and PhD programmes. The participants also visited several key areas of the Institute — such as the Traveller’s Clinic — illustrating IHMT NOVA’s commitment to advancing global health through research, training and intervention.

This initiative reinforces GHTM | IHMT NOVA’s dedication to promoting female leadership, strengthening international cooperation, and supporting networks that empower women to drive change in global health.
