André Beja, researcher at the PPS-GHTM Research Group, and Raquel Osório, PhD student in International Health, participated in the 19th National Conference on Health Economics (CNES), which took place at the end of October at the Faculdade de Economia da Universidade do Porto. There, they presented oral communications on health workforce retention in Portugal.
The CNES is a biennial event organised by the Portuguese Association of Health Economics. It serves as a national forum for the discussion and dissemination of research in Health Economics, bringing together academics, policymakers, health professionals, and students interested in evidence, policy and health system management.
Their presentations were included in panels dedicated to the health workforce. Raquel Osório focused on the retention of physicians in the Serviço Nacional de Saúde, SNS (Portuguese National Health Service, NHS), while André Beja presented results on the retention of nurses in the SNS. These works derive from the continued analysis of the dataset generated for the first national study on job satisfaction and retention of health professionals in Portugal, led by GHTM | IHMT NOVA, involving the PPS-GHTM researchers Tiago Correia and Rita Morais, PhD student Mónica Morgado, and Ana Sofia Ferreira, Senior Consultant at Centro de Planeamento e de Avaliação de Políticas Públicas (PLANAPP).
Additionally, André Beja presented a second oral communication, co-authored with Tiago Correia, Rita Morais and Paulo Ferrinho, professor and researcher from PPS-GHTM, focusing on strategies for the training of Health Care Assistants in Portugal.
The participation of IHMT NOVA in the 19th CNES was supported by GHTM and the WHO Collaborating Centre for Health Workforce Policy and Planning, aligning with the institutional activities of both entities.
