GHTM Clinical Sessions | Chikungunya VLP vaccine (Vimkunya) medical presentation

At GHTM | IHMT NOVA, we are resuming the GHTM Clinical Sessions, which showcase new technologies for diagnosing, preventing and treating diseases, as well as epidemiological changes with practical implications. These sessions are aimed primarily at healthcare professionals and provide an opportunity to keep up to date with current challenges and innovations in clinical practice.

This GHTM Clinical session will focus on the Chikungunya virus, covering its epidemiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, treatment options and prevention strategies. There will be a special emphasis on vaccination, including general preventive measures and guidance on who should be vaccinated. Join us to gain practical insights into managing and preventing Chikungunya virus infections.

About Juan Barriga 

Juan Barriga is a Family Care Physician who graduated from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) in 1981 and specialized in the Pharmaceutical Industry at the same institution in 1983. He holds an Executive MBA from the Instituto de Empresa (1994) and a Master’s in Commercial Direction and Market Research from Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED) (2004). With nearly 30 years of experience, Juan Barriga has worked across Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, and Commercial roles in the pharmaceutical industry, covering areas such as Oncology, CNS, Infectious Diseases & HIV, and Vaccines. His multidisciplinary background combines clinical expertise, strategic management, and market-focused insight, enabling him to bridge medical, scientific, and commercial perspectives effectively.

  • Academic Background: Medical Degree, UCM (1981); Specialist in Family Medicine, UCM; Specialist in the Pharmaceutical Industry, UCM (1983); Executive MBA, Instituto de Empresa (IE), Madrid (1994), Master’s Degree in Commercial Management and Market Research, UNED (2004)

  • Career Path: Over 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry; Extensive background in Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, and Commercial roles, Proven leadership across multidisciplinary and cross-functional teams; Solid track record working in both strategic and operational positions within global and regional organizations

  • Areas of Expertise: Oncology, Central Nervous Sysytem  (CNS), Infectious Diseases and HIV, Vaccines, Medical strategy, clinical development and market access
