GHTM’s Prof. Ana Abecasis nominated for the Inspiring Women Awards 2021

January 24, 2022

GHTM Abecasis Award

Ana Abecasis, member of GHTM’S THOP – TB, HIV and Opportunistic diseases and Pathogens Research Group, Assistant Professor of the International Public Health and BioStatistics Unit of the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, is nominated for the ACTIVA Inspiring Women Awards of 2021 in the Science category.

In Portugal, there are many women who distinguish themselves in Arts, Business, Science, Solidarity, Sports and Sustainability. “Just” to be in the nominees is not an easy feat!

However, Prof. Abecasis’ outstanding scientific career has been placing her on the Portuguese academic top tier for years. And, not surprisingly, she has been collecting several awards – go Ana!

This time, her leading of a Portuguese team of an international project caught the attention of the award’s jury. It aims to assess the impact of distance learning on learning during the SARS-COV2 pandemic and the variants of the new coronavirus in treatments and vaccines.

The «EuCARE: European cohorts of patients and schools to advance the response to epidemics», is a European project, led by Italy with GHTM’s participation, on the most critical aspects of the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic.

Will she need more shelf room for the trophy?
