The main research topics of the PPS group are: Health Policy and Planning; Human Resources for Health; Health determinants of vulnerable populations.
During the year 2022, the activities of the PPS research group addressed 3 cross-cutting areas: Global dispersion of pathogenic organisms and population mobility, through the 1st collection of data related to the cohort study of immigrant and native children and their families, residing in the municipalities of Barreiro, Moita, Alcochete and Montijo; Partnerships for equity in research was developed through the implementation of the Master’s project in Field Epidemiology in partnership with Mozambique, Cape Verde, Angola, Guinea-Bissau and Denmark; as regards Public Health Information, we concluded the multi-centre randomized controlled trial on the effect of BCG vaccine in enhancing non-specific protection of health care workers during the COVID-19 pandemic; we also implemented a new project to study the non-specific effects of BCG in children under five years of age.
Main results:
- We participated as technical partners in a study coordinated by the NGO AJPAS on the incidence, mortality and impact of COVID-19 on the quality of life of adult immigrants in Amadora, funded by the FAMI Fund for Asylum, Migration and Integration Program;
- We continued to implement the European study on how to deal with vaccine hesitancy in Europe by coordinating the package linked to the area of evaluation;
- We highlight the appointment of a member of the PPS Group (Inês Fronteira) as Editor-in-Chief of the journal Human Resources for Health;
- We have maintained our status as a WHO Collaborating Center for Health Workforce Planning and Policy;
