Carla Maia is Post-Doctoral Fellow at Medical Parasitology Unit, at the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Universidade Nova de Lisboa (IHMT/UNL), since 2009.
She graduated in Veterinary Medicine (Universidade Técnica de Lisboa), obtained MSc degree in Medical Parasitology (IHMT/UNL) and completed a PhD degree at the same Institution in Biomedical Sciences, specialization in Parasitology.
Her main areas of interest are vector-borne, parasitic and zoonotic diseases; Good and extensive hands-on work experience on Leishmaniasis, namely: diagnosis, immune response, in vitro drug susceptibility, experimental animal and insect models, and epidemiological surveys on canine, feline and phlebotomine sand fly populations.
She has collaborated/led various research projects in those areas and supervised several postgraduate degrees. At the moment she is in the Management committee of two European COST-Actions, namely TD1303: European Network for Neglected Vectors and Vector-Borne Infections and TD1404: Network for Evaluation of One Health.
C. Maia is author/co-author of over 40 peer reviewed publications and 1 book chapters.
